Rnd 2 vs Marist At Rosalie Park
Summary
This game was eagerly anticipated by the coach and players alike. A classic encounter occurred between these teams at the same ground in the final round of 2010. The game commenced as expected, with Marist closely checking the Subiaco players, and limiting their usual free flowing style of play. Subiaco’s defence was also outstanding. At half time Marist had narrowly outscored Subiaco. The third quarter from Subiaco was outstanding. The ball was repeatedly pumped into the forward line and Subiaco scored heavily. During the last quarter the Marist attack looked dangerous and kicked two unanswered goals. However the defence was steadied by Will Reikie at centre half back. Angus Tazewell was also very useful, being asked to shadow the Marist giant who had played a part in those two goals. There were multiple outstanding players - Nick Edwards played an outstanding second quarter in defence, Ted Bentley had an excellent first half, Austin Prosser-Brightling kicked 3 important goals, Sam Pierce had a dominant third quarter, Nick Speca had an excellent captain’s game, Cooper Carvalho continued to improve, Pierce McKenzie ran his heart out (especially in the first quarter) and Linton Robbin was solid all day.

Rnd 1 vs North Beach at Charles Reilly Reserve
Summary
The Subiaco Year 5 team started the season as they finished in 2010. Angus Tazewell, the captain for the first match, won the toss and kicked with the breeze. The midfield was dominant in the first quarter, driving the ball repeatedly into the forward line. Goal umpire David Reikie was kept on his toes as the ball repeatedly flew over his head. The display of ruckwork by Steven Miller was outstanding. Subiaco’s defence was excellent in the second quarter, restricting North Beach to minimal scoring with the breeze.
The second half was low scoring, due to a combination of player tiredness and the wind.
